Sermon of the Week 3/7/12 – Paul Washer: 10 Indictments Against the Modern Church in America

Below is Paul Washer preaching a piercing and convicting message for churches today.  He outlines his sermon with 10 Indictments:

  1. Practical denial of the Sufficiency of Scripture
  2. Ignorance of God
  3. A Failure to address Man’s Malady (sin)
  4. Ignorance of the Gospel of Jesus Christ
  5. Ignorance of the Doctrine of Regeneration
  6. Unbiblical Gospel Invitation
  7. Ignorance regarding the Nature of the Church
  8. Lack of Loving and Compassionate Church Discipline
  9. Silence on Separation. Void on teaching Holiness.
  10. Psychology and Sociology have replaced Scripture with regard to Families

May God raise up men who are willing to pray for revival and fearlessly work for reform in our churches.

  1. Hey, I am cutting this up into individual mp3’s (its a long sermon) and wanted to check that the topics were correct when I noted what would be “number 11” would be about “a lack of Godly Discipline” or something to that effect.
It seems there is a mistake that your points 4 and 5 are included in the same subject.

In fact Paul mentions “the fifth indictment .. An unbiblical gospel invitation.”

On the final audio track you have here and goes to speak on about godly discipline very earnestly, but does not declare the topic clearly at the start.

Awesome sermon – a MUST hear for ALL who call themselves Christian.

  2. Thanks Tavis, it’s been awhile since I’ve listened to that sermon, but I remember there being a numbering problem as he was speaking. If I remember correctly, I tried to account for that in my list, but may have gotten it wrong too. I’ll go back and listen again this week and post what I find in these comments.

    I agree, it’s definitely a must hear.

    In Christ alone,
    John

  3. Here’s the list I came up with after listening again:
    1. Practical Denial of the Sufficiency of Scripture
    2. An Ignorance of God
    3. Failure to Address Man’s Malady
    4. Ignorance of the Gospel of Jesus Christ
    5. Ignorance of the Doctrine of Regeneration (Called #4)
    6. An unbiblical Gospel Invitation (Called #5)
    7. Ignorance Regarding the Nature of the Church (Called #6)
    8. Lack of Loving and Compassionate Church Discipline (Called #7)
    9. A Silence on Separation (Called #8)
    10. Psychology and Sociology have replaced the Scriptures with regard
    to the family (Called #9)

As regards to a “#11 a lack of Godly Discipline”, Mr. Washer starts by saying “lastly” before he begins and exposition of 1 Timothy 4. Since he doesn’t explicitly call this an indictment, I’m unsure whether to include it. All the indications I’ve seen in looking this sermon up is that it’s still called 10 Indictments, but I definitely see how it could include a #11. I don’t know if that helps at all, but I did try to be very attentive to the numbering and titles of 1-10 above.

I want to hear from you! Leave your feedback below.
