“I Will be Your God”

What a powerful and loving statement from the one true living God.  We see this as a prevailing sentiment throughout the Old Testament that whenever God speaks to Israel, He refers to Himself as the Lord your God.  In Exodus 6:7 God is speaking through Moses to the Israelites and says, “I will take you as my own people, and I will be your God. Then you will know that I am the LORD your God, who brought you out from under the yoke of the Egyptians.”  What beauty there is in that statement!  In II Corinthians 6:16 the Apostle Paul echo’s these sentiments, “What agreement is there between the temple of God and idols? For we are the temple of the living God. As God has said: “I will live with them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be my people.”

Again, what a powerful statement, to know that the Creator of all that is has chosen an elected few to be their God.  His love abounds in such infinite quantity for His people that He sent His Son Jesus to die for our sins, to purchase us with the blood of Jesus on the cross.  As Charles Spurgeon states, “My People.  Here is the specialty.  The whole world is God’s; the heaven, even the heaven of heavens is the Lord’s, and He reigneth among the children of men; but of those whom He hath chosen, whom he hath purchased to himself, he saith what he saith not of others-My People.  In this word there is the idea of proprietorship.”

Among all that is in this world, in this universe, if you have excepted Jesus as your personal Savior then how sweet it is to look to heaven and say You are My God.  To know that you are among His people.  If you can “by humble faith, lay hold of Jesus’ garments, and say, My Christ” If you can, “then God saith of thee, and of others like thee, My People; for if God be your God, and Christ be your Christ, the Lord has a special, peculiar favor to you;  you are the object of His choice, accepted in His beloved Son.”

Prayer for the Day:  If you have accepted Christ as Savior, thank the Lord for His blessings of mercy and grace.  Thank Him that He is Your God and You are His people.
