Perfection Defined

Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect. Matthew 5:48

What does that verse mean to you?  The Bible is literally instructing us to be perfect?  Now we know that perfection in the truest, physical sense, doesn’t exist in a world filled with sin and is unattainable for us from birth, because of our sinful nature.  However, this literal instruction to be perfect is the result of a rebirth in Christ.  We read of this difference in Philippians, as Paul says in his epistle to the church at Philippi, “Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me.” Philippians 3:12 This perfection that he has not yet attained is the physical perfection of the resurrection of his body upon Christ’s return.  We read of Paul’s description of this in verses 10-11, “I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, and so, somehow, to attain to the resurrection from the dead.” Philippians 3:10-11  Despite not yet achieving this perfection, Paul speaks of yet another perfection, the same we read about in Matthew above, “Let us therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded: and if in any thing ye be otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this unto you.” Philippians 3:15 KJV

The distinction is clear and the call is perfection through Christ.  We know that Jesus was the only one who was wholly perfect, in body and spirit, and though the bodily perfection is not yet attainable for us, our spirit can be made perfect, washed clean by the blood of Jesus, if we make one simple decision, to accept Him as our Savior.  He’ll wash away those sins, giving us a spiritual rebirth into perfection and have us longing for the day when we’ll be wholly perfect in body and spirit.

Isn’t it time to follow the call to perfection and accept Jesus as your Savior?  If you want to make that decision, just click here, or on the Knowing the Truth tab above.

Have a blessed day!
