Bucket Drops 1/14/11: Abortion

I apologize for the lack of posts this week.  I had written several blogs, but due to some time constraints I was never really able to proofread and think through them completely.   Lord willing I will be more consistent next week.  You may have noticed from time to time, I select some news stories that are pertinent to Christian life and I republish them under the heading of “Bucket Drops” in reference to the passage in Isaiah 40:15 where the nations are referred to as but a drop in the bucket in measurement to God.  With upcoming anniversary of Roe v. Wade (January 22, 1973) this week there were a lot of blogs and news stories covering abortion, so that’s the focus of this edition of “Bucket Drops.”

Chilling Almost Beyond Belief

Starting off is this post from Al Mohler, President of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.  In this story, Mohler discussed the shocking figures recently released on New York City’s abortion rates.  He notes that nearly 40% of all pregnancies end in abortion, while the number among African Americans is a staggering 60%!  Why are all the Christians who clamor for justice so silent on the issue of abortion?  Surely there is no greater segment of the population that needs justice more than the helpless, defenseless, unborn babies.

Couple aborts twin boys because they want a girl using IVF

This story, covered by Politics Daily, is quite appalling as it discusses the decision by two Austrailian parents to abort their twin boys, because they want to use IVF to ensure they have a girl to replace the one they recently lost.  So this is what it comes to?  Killing innocent life because they weren’t the sex you had hoped for?  Surely to this horrific sin there is no end to the evil and twisted outcomes that man will come up with.

Health Care Reform: A Pro-life Legal Analysis from AUL

This article from the Crosstalk Blog highlights the research findings of a study into the healthcare reform bill that is sure to be reanalyzed with the newly elected House of Representatives.  The opening statement from the research article says, “The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) allows federal tax dollars to directly subsidize insurance plans that cover abortions.”

Study: Contraceptives raise abortion rates

Interesting study, but no real surprise.  I wonder how long it will be until the mainstream media picks up on the fact that “the Pill, IUDs, Depo-Provera and Norplant cause early abortions.” Oh the depth of lies that have been told in order to promote the murderous agenda of abortion.

Should Churches observe Sanctity of Life Sunday

In this post, Dr. R.C. Sproul argues that abortion should be an issue that churches address in what has been called “Sanctity of Life Sunday.”  He argues “Sanctity of Life Sunday is as fitting, as sensible, as reasonable as observing the Incarnation from the pulpit. Just as we must preach the glory of the incarnation, sometime, if not in December, so we must preach the horror of this evil sometime, if not in January.  To be silent is to be complicit”.  While also asserting, “abortion in America is, in the judgment of my very wise father, the greatest evil in our history. The American holocaust dwarves the evil of Nazi Germany in both numbers of the dead, and the numbers of we who know what is happening.”

Below is a video from Dr. Sproul in which he discusses the re-release of his book “Abortion – A Rational Look at an Emotional Issue”

“Behold, the nations are like a drop from a bucket, and are accounted as dust on the scales; behold he takes up coastlands like fine dust.” Isaiah 40:15
